DCPC Youth is excited to share that we will be starting a discussion group for parents this Sunday! The group will feature informal conversation centering around the book Parenting Beyond Your Capacity by Reggie Joiner and Carey Nieuwhof. The title might sound a little intimidating, but really the book frees us from trying to be the picture-perfect family. Instead, Joiner and Nieuwhof share with us 5 family values that help crazy, broken families like ours to accept God’s invitation into a bigger story.
Not much of a reader or worried you won’t be able to find the time to read? That’s not a problem either! Each week we’ll start with a 7-8 minute video of Carey Nieuwhof breaking down the chapter to get everyone on the same page. From there we will launch into some discussion where, hopefully, you will realize that you’re not alone in your parenting struggles and that there is a community that will walk with you through them. The goal every week will be to encourage, inspire, and challenge each other to take one small step towards being a better parent.
Don’t feel like you have to commit to all six weeks either! You are welcome to join the group for one session, all the sessions, or anywhere in between. Here’s the schedule:
September 17 Stock Family Syndrome
September 24 Widen the Circle
October 1 Imagine the End
October 8 Fight for the Heart
October 15 Create a Rhythm
October 22 Make it Personal
If you are already dropping off your kids for the All Youth Dinner, feel free to stay for dinner and eat with other parents in Room D (behind the kitchen). The Parent Group discussion will take place in the Parlor in the main church building.
