Jamaica Mission Trip 2020

We have filled our initial allotment of 10 spots for youth, but we have opened a waitlist as it is very likely we will be able to open up more spots. If you would like to join the waitlist, use the registration link to sign up but skip the deposit.

DCPC High Schoolers will have a new opportunity this summer: to travel to the small town of Harmons in Jamaica and live immersed in their community for a week! While there we will be meeting the local residents and participating in the life of their community through fun and service. Service opportunities include building homes, working in community greenhouses, assisting at a government-run nursing home, and working in a thrift shop. Won by One to Jamaica, our host organization, will challenge all of us daily in ways that will stretch our faith and make us aware of God’s presence in powerful ways.

Expect to step out of your comfort zone on this trip! Harmons is a rural town with high unemployment and low opportunity (Won by One is actually the largest employer in the town as they employee local workers to lead building projects and greenhouse work as well as provide cooking and cleaning support for mission teams). Participants on the trip can expect no cell service, short/cold showers, and no air conditioning at the mission house, as well as strenuous work and a good amount of walking. (We will wrap up the trip with a final 24 hours at a hotel near the beach in Montego Bay.)

In order to make sure everyone is prepared for this trip, we will be meeting together monthly to build relationships, learn about Jamaica, and study scripture together. These will be required meetings and participants can expect to prepare a short presentation on a Jamaica-related topic of their choice. This sort of preparation greatly enhances everyone’s experience and helps us to get to know our Jamaican hosts.

When July 12-19, 2020

Who Can Go High schoolers (current 9th to 12th graders)

Fee $1700 (includes travel, lodging, and meals)

Financial Assistance We do not want this fee to be an obstacle to anyone who wants to go. DCPC’s Journey Fund is in place to help pay for trips like this. Click here to find out more and apply to the Journey Fund for assistance.

Capacity Unlike our conference trips, this is a new trip for us and therefore kind of an experiment. In order to do this trip, we will require a minimum of 5 youth and 1 female leader signed up by February 28th to make this trip possible. Our maximum capacity will be 10 youth. All fees will be refunded if we do not reach our minimum.

Next Steps To get on the list, register (click here to register) and pay a $50 deposit by February 28th.

Cancellations DCPC will be making payments to Won by One in advance of the actual trip which often makes it impossible to recoup fees in the case of cancellation. In other words: we will do our best but can’t make any promises.
