6th, 7th, & 9th-12th graders are starting a new series this Sunday called Vibes where we will take a look at the thoughts and feelings that create our inner world. But our inner world doesn’t just stay inside us! What’s inside us affects the world around us and can help or hurt our dreams, relationships, and more. But with God’s wisdom on how to understand our emotions, we can increase our potential to love God, love others, and love life. Here’s what we’re talking about in detail:
January 10 In a normal year it can be difficult to feel like we’re in control with the dozens of emotions flying around inside us, but what about a year like the one we’ve just had? If you need some wisdom for figuring out what you’re feeling and what we’re supposed to do with that, join us to find out what our Creator God has to say.
February 7 Some of the feelings that can fight for control of our actions are anger, fear, and sadness/guilt, but these aren’t feelings we want to be in the driver’s seat of our lives. This week we’ll take a deeper dive into one of those feelings, the important messages it has for us, and what we should do about it.
February 21 (HS) & 28 (MS) We all have a tendency to hide things in our lives. And the more serious something is, the more likely we are to keep it hidden. One of those things for many teenagers is suicidal thoughts. This week, instead of keeping suicidal thoughts hidden, we’ll discover how bringing them to light by telling someone can be the first step toward healing. We hope you can join us for this really important discussion.
Parent Resources Parents, we want to make sure you feel equipped to continue the conversation at home! Parent Cues for Vibes will give you some things to think about in terms of the development of your teenager, some conversation starters, and activities to try:
We also know that suicide is a huge concern for parents and we want to bring you into that conversation as well. That’s why we’ll have Parent Conversations with members of Davidson LifeLine and mental health professionals during middle school youth group (2-3 pm), high school youth group (4:30-5:30 pm), and on Zoom (7:30-8:30 pm). You can also find more resources right now at this link.
